Alcohol Misuse – How Genes and Emotions Play

When life closes its doors at you, the usual next step is to get into a club or bar. The menu? Beer. And this tends to be abused and people can back it up reasons that sound credible enough.

There are two arguable reasons why people drink, the categories are either biological or behavioral. Experts claim that DNA dictates people to drink while others say it is more of the psychological and emotional reaction of a person to circumstances.

Men drink more than women. That is a fact but women need to achieve less to claim the title of an alcoholic. The younger a person drinks the more they are predisposed for alcoholism. Many generations believed that having alcoholic in the family will guarantee another and notion goes on. For those who believe that genetics have a role, the D2 dopamine receptor is to blame.

Psychological and sociological issues are also to blame as accorded by other experts. Low self-esteem will get people drinking because they feel sorry for themselves. Depression is another factor to consider drinking. But there are also other factors that has nothing to do with a person’s emotional state that explains why they drink. The cultural background has to be examined as well, there are societies in the world that take drinking as a universally accepted practice.

Alcohol abuse motivates the drinker to drink more and be happy. Of course who doesn’t want to be happy? But the thing is that this urge to be happy is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.

It is does not matter what causes people to drink whether it is biological or it is the norm of the society, conservatives who see it as a waste of time can argue that a person’s free will is still there to say the final word.
