To prevent this, Young proposes that our diet should mostly be comprised of alkaline foods. The proponents of his pH Miracle diet says too much acid can disrupt the body’s use of sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. All such minerals are alkaline and interruptions in their proper use by our bodies may result in chronic diseases.

Acids and alkalines are chemical opposites, though they both play a part in making blood. Intoxicated by acid, people tend to feel burned out. Muscles fatigue easily, you age faster, friendly bacteria in the small intestine die and puts the gut off balance, and cells become overstressed. Alkaline substances however improve muscle output, have antioxidant effects, promote a healthier sleep and younger skin, as also can relieve colds, headaches, and the flu. As such, the pH diet recommends an avoidance of foods high in acidity (sugar, caffeine, packaged foods, and animal protein) and instead encourages the consumption of alkaline foods (beans, tofu, nuts, and vegetables).
